Pathophysiology
of Feline Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is the most common hormonal disorder in older cats. It is most frequently caused by thyroid adenoma or hyperplasia, and less commonly by carcinoma. The overproduction of thyroid hormones (T4) leads to weight loss, hyperactivity, tachycardia, and increased renal blood flow.

Our Treatment and Its Benefits

Radioactive iodine therapy (I-131) is the first-choice method. It offers high efficacy (remission > 95%), a permanent solution to the problem, and a minimal risk of recurrence.

International Experience

This method is also successfully utilized at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna (Prof. Florian Zeugswetter), which is one of the reference centers with many years of experience that we collaborate with.

Scintigraphy – More Than Just Hyperthyroidism Diagnosis

Scintigraphy also allows for the examination of the kidneys, liver, and skeleton, detecting diseases that other imaging methods cannot reveal.
