We perform scintigraphy using the Tc-99 isotope. Scintigraphy is essential before starting therapy. It allows for:
- confirming the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism,
- determining whether the involvement is unilateral or bilateral,
- establishing the optimal dose of I-131.
The examination is performed by scanning the cat with a special gamma camera, which captures an image of the affected thyroid gland. This then “lights up” on the computer monitor.
This makes the treatment safer and precisely targeted.
