Scintigraphy
Thyroid scintigraphy is performed using the substance Tc-99. Scintigraphy is crucial before starting therapy. It allows for:
- confirming the diagnosis of hyperthyroidism,
- determining whether the involvement is unilateral or bilateral,
- establishing the optimal dose of I-131.
The examination is performed by scanning the cat with a special gamma camera, which captures an image of the affected thyroid gland. This then “lights up” on the computer monitor.
This makes the treatment safer and precisely targeted.
Other uses of Scintigraphy:
At our clinic, we offer scintigraphic examinations not only to cats before planned radioiodine treatment. Scintigraphy is also a valuable diagnostic method for other patients and a range of other conditions, as it allows for the visualization of tissue function and the detection of changes that may not be apparent during routine X-ray, ultrasound, or CT examinations.
It is used, for example, in the diagnosis of bone diseases and the musculoskeletal system, searching for hidden sources of pain or inflammation, evaluating the function of certain organs, or as part of oncological diagnostics.
